St Kilda, Brighton, Victoria, Australia (April 2016)

25 April 2016 (Monday)

My mum was very sick after the Great Ocean Road the previous day so I decided to go out in the morning to catch my sunrise alone and perhaps visit some other places. I started my day leaving the apartment at about close to 5am. It was so dark and the streets were so empty. I waited for the tram at Southern Cross Station to go to St Kilda. Haven't been out of the CBD area yet by tram so this is the first. Upon boarding the tram there were some drunk and homeless people inside. But I just plugged in my earpiece throughout the journey.
It was quite a horror upon arriving. The beach wasn't exactly in sight yet because I have to cross a couple of roads and pass by a park before I can see the beach. The roads were so wide and I was like the only human in sight except the occasional passing of cars. The picture below is how dark it was when I arrived. I didn't dare go to the pier till first light...
Damn, it's so beautiful at first light!! Not sure where the sun rise is gonna rise from but from what I researched, it will only rise at about 7am. So I had to wait for about an hour plus.
There's a father and son fishing as I go down to the pier and the sky was so beautiful! My photographs can't do justice to the real thing 'cause either it's too bright or too dark in pictures. So apparently the sun only rise at the opposite direction. I had to face my fear of birds and this is the first time there were so many birds crowding and flying around me literally. But I can't make a wasted trip!!
I never caught an actual sun rise on the spot before. It's either those random mornings seeing a little bit of the sun rising, or the one time on the plane to Japan. Never took the time to go and travel at a perfect spot for the sunrise! I was alone and it was so cold! Not surprised if it was about 1 degree that morning because my hands became numb and I can't feel anything. It was so difficult to even feel my phone that I only started my time lapse late 'cause I can't use my phone. No glove no nothing omg nothing warm. Once again I wore too little.

After the sunrise I decided to find a way to Brighton Bathing Boxes at the beach. The first bus only comes at about 8am. It was ANZAC day which is why the timing was irregular and so on. So I walked along Fitzroy Street and none of the shops were open yet and there were some beggars on the street.

So I await for a bus at this bus-stop and there's only like 1-2 others on board with me. I just alight seeing that my map seems to be near the place but there's no exact directions too. So I stopped in the middle of all these houses!
Continued walking and walking till I seem to have found the beach! Crossed a couple of roads and there were so many cyclists cycling along there saying good morning to me. Anyway yay I finally arrived at Brighton Beach from St Kilda by bus!
Many people tell me there's going to be lots of flies and all but surprisingly there's no flies at all, not sure if it's because it was so early in the morning or it became cold. There weren't many people there also since it was only about 8-9am.

A kind lady asked if I would like to take some photograph because I was holding on to my selfie stick and I even placed my camera on some platform and set some self timer HAHA. So she helped me take some photographs.

I didn't know where else to go already and I wanted to go to the Luna Park area but it was too early in the morning so it was closed. But I just took some photographs there and headed back to the apartment.
It was quite a morning. There's a lot of things that I see and I can't seem to describe my feelings towards it. Going around yourself in a foreign land is scary but you'll realise that humanity ain't so bad when there are people that come talking to you seeing that you are alone, and also a bus driver that asked me where I wanted to go because I was the only one in the bus so he stopped me at somewhere nearby. Being alone allows you to do things at your own leisure and taking the time to stop and see various things without feeling like you are rushing for time or being a burden. But then again of course having company would be good too!

This is the last of my week long Australia trip! The entire trip felt so calming and peaceful. Had enough rest and a just right alone time for myself too. With the bonus of being surrounded by such a beautiful scenery :-)
